Linking Environmental and Transportation PlanningWetland

Welcome to the wiki site for the MARC Eco-Logical Project! The purpose of this wiki site is to provide a place for discussion and information exchange. This is a companion site to the project website hosted by MARC at http://www.marc.org/transportation/conservation.htm. There you will find more information on the MARC Eco-Logical project including dates for upcoming workshops and archives of meeting materials.

Background
In early 2008, MARC was awarded funding from the Federal Highway Administration's Eco-Logical grant program, which supports making infrastructure more sensitive to wildlife and ecosystems through greater interagency cooperation and conservation.

Project Purpose
With this grant, MARC will work with the consulting team of Shockey Consulting, LLC, Parsons Brinckerhoff, and Environmental International, Ltd. to:
  • create a regional green infrastructure mitigation plan,
  • conduct professional development and community engagement exercises to build a better understanding of Eco-Logical principles and approaches, and
  • refine an action plan that was initially drafted at the Linking Conservation and Transportation Planning workshop in February 2008.

This work to shape a strategy for better integrating environmental and transportation planning will impact the next update of the Long-Range Transportation Plan, Transportation Outlook 2040, and create a more sustainable regional transportation system.

hmdraper Workshop 3 Greenhouse Gas 1 Feb 13 2009, 9:53 AM EST by Anonymous
Thread started: Feb 10 2009, 10:09 AM EST  Watch
At the workshop on February 9, 2009, a question was asked about why 1990 was always used as a baseline for comparison of greenhouse gas emissions. The year 1990 was the year used as the baseline in the Kyoto Protocol of 1997. The countries that ratified the protocol (virtually all countries in the world except the U.S.) committed to assigned amounts of greenhouse gas emissions, based on 1990 emissions.
